Casting sprues

Tip:

Varying temperatures and long standing times can make the wax pattern slightly distorted. This can be corrected by re-waxing and re-adapting the cervical margins.

Sprues

Play an important part in achieving homogenous casting quality.

Wax sticks

Wax sticks in extra hard quality (Ø 3 mm, Ø 4 mm, Ø 5 mm) stabilises the framework.

Horizontal bar

 Advantages:

  • Stabilises the bridge
  • Casting reservoir
  • Vertical bar controls the flow of molten metal guarantees clean and homogenous mould casting

The casting sprues must have the correct dimensions.

It is also advisable to use the indirect spruing method for single crowns.

Advice:

The size of the connecting sprue, which runs between the crown and main bar, is determined according to the size of the object to be cast. Sprues leading to solid pontics or very thick full metal crowns must have a larger diameter.

Position within the casting ring

The correct position within the casting ring allows the molten metal to flow well and plays a large part in achieving homogenous cast objects.

Arrange the objects to be cast out of the heat center!
